On August 20, 2015, the ENCS Humanoid Robot Team, Grayson and Daniel, went to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to give a presentation, hosted by Dr. Jim Conrad from UNCC. I worked out the schedule at the last minute and was horned to ride with the team to UNCC. The talk went very well. Grayson gave the first 30 minutes of talk about the project, including the goals of the project, the team formation, the current work, and future work. Then Daniel spent another 30 minutes or so demonstrating what Ken can do and the software and hardware, especially the eye tracking, head movement, and speech recognition. And then it was about half an hour for questions. More than 90 people attended the event, and they asked many questions about the project. The questions lasted another half an hour or so after the talk. A lab from UNCC also demonstrated their robot, MetaBot, whose function is for public education and outreach to the kids. The humanoid robot project makes me think about various issues regarding the human-robot relationship.
